Online Anxiety Counseling in Colorado

And on the outside, you seem totally fine. People assume you have it all figured out. They don't know what's going on under the surface. You feel so uncomfortable, so far from confident, even though you wish you could be.

You're so tired of living this way. And you're ready for something to change.

The fact that you're here means something…

It means that underneath the noise and the spiraling and the exhaustion, there is a part of you that hasn't given up. A part of you that still believes it doesn't have to be this way forever… And that part of you is right.

There is a version of your life where you can breathe. Where you can experience the fullness of life and feel like yourself again, not just a bundle of anxiety trying to hold it all together.

It feels so noisy in your head.

To other people, you seem totally fine. But on the inside, you feel like you're drowning. No matter how hard you try to push things away, to just not think about it, you can't turn it off. You want so desperately to relax, to just go with the flow of your life. That feels like such a simple thing, and yet it's completely out of reach.

Sometimes a part of you doesn't even feel like a person. Just a bundle of anxiety. You find yourself spiraling into worst-case scenarios, wishing your brain had an off switch, but it keeps going. "I'll never be good enough." "Ugghh why did I say that?" "What if I mess everything up?" "I'm sure they all hate me." The voice is relentless, and you’re so tired of it.

Meet Your Anxiety Therapist in Denver

Hi! I'm Alison, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) offering online anxiety counseling to people across Colorado. I work with people who are exhausted from fighting their own minds, people who look fine on the outside but are quietly overwhelmed on the inside, people who are ready to stop white-knuckling their way through life and actually find some relief.

I believe that anxiety is not a character flaw. It’s not a sign that something is permanently broken in you. It is a pattern, and patterns can change. What I bring to this work is a deep understanding of how anxiety cycles operate, a genuine respect for how hard you’ve already been trying, and a commitment to helping you find your way forward at a pace that feels empowering and sustainable for you.

One of the things I hear often from new clients is that they have tried everything. The books, the apps, the deep breaths, telling themselves to just calm down more times than they can count. What they haven't always had is a space where someone truly understands what’s happening beneath the surface and knows how to help them work with it rather than against it. That is what I’m here for.

My work is informed by Internal Family Systems (IFS), a framework that shapes how I think about and relate to the people I work with. IFS holds the idea that we are all made up of different parts, and that even the parts of us that seem most frustrating or self-defeating are usually trying to protect us in some way. I don't treat your anxiety as the enemy. I bring curiosity to it. That shift in perspective alone can change the way you relate to what's happening inside you.

Clients who work with me often describe feeling heard in a way they haven't experienced before. That relief, the relief of finally being understood, is often where the real work begins.

How Online Anxiety Counseling Works

I use a combination of treatments for anxiety, pulling from Internal Family Systems (IFS), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).

IFS-informed therapy helps us look at anxiety with compassion rather than frustration. Rather than treating the worried, critical, or catastrophizing parts of you as problems to fix, we get curious about them. What are they afraid of? What have they been carrying? When those parts feel understood rather than fought, the internal noise tends to quiet in a way that pure technique alone often can't achieve.

Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is one of the most well-researched and effective treatments available for anxiety. At its core, ERP involves gradually facing the thoughts, situations, or feelings that trigger your anxiety, while resisting the urge to do the thing that temporarily makes it feel better, whether that is seeking reassurance, avoiding situations, or trying to push the thoughts away entirely. It sounds simple, and it is genuinely hard. But it works. Over time, your nervous system learns that it can tolerate uncertainty and discomfort, and anxiety begins to lose its grip.

In addition to IFS-informed therapy and ERP, I pull from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), which offers an abundance of concrete skills that help with emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and mindfulness.

Together, this combination helps you build a different relationship with your own mind. One that is more understanding, compassionate, and empowering. Some of what shifts for clients includes:

- Feeling less controlled by intrusive thoughts and worst-case scenarios

- Building a healthier relationship with uncertainty so it doesn't send you into a spiral

- Approaching the anxious parts of yourself with curiosity instead of frustration

- Recognizing anxiety's patterns before they take over

- Feeling more present in your life and less like you're just surviving it

All sessions are held online via secure video, so you can access support from wherever you are most comfortable in Colorado.

This is not about eliminating anxiety entirely. It’s about helping you get your life back.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if anxiety counseling is right for me?

If you find yourself constantly worrying, spiraling into worst-case scenarios, or feeling like your brain just won't quiet down, anxiety counseling can help. You don't need to have a formal diagnosis or be in crisis to reach out. Many people who seek anxiety therapy in Colorado simply feel like they've been trying to manage on their own for too long and are ready for real support. If you're reading this page and thinking "this sounds like me," that's usually a pretty good sign.

What is online anxiety counseling like? Is it as effective as in-person therapy?

Online anxiety counseling works much the same way as in-person therapy, just from the comfort of your own space. Sessions are held via secure video, so you don't have to worry about a commute or sitting in a waiting room. Research consistently shows that online therapy is as effective as in-person therapy for anxiety, and many clients actually find it easier to open up when they're in a familiar, comfortable environment. For Colorado residents, online therapy also means access to quality care regardless of where you live.

What is ERP and will it feel overwhelming?

ERP stands for Exposure and Response Prevention. It is one of the most well-researched treatments available for anxiety, and it works by gradually helping you face the thoughts and situations that trigger your anxiety rather than avoiding them. The word "exposure" can sound intimidating, but this work is always done collaboratively and at your pace. You will never be pushed into anything before you feel ready. The goal is to help your nervous system learn, over time, that it can handle discomfort without the spiral taking over.

What does it mean that you are IFS-informed?

IFS stands for Internal Family Systems. Being IFS-informed means that this framework shapes the way I think about and relate to clients, even when ERP is the primary treatment being used. In practical terms, it means your anxiety won't be treated as a problem to eliminate. Instead, I bring curiosity to the parts of you that worry, criticize, and catastrophize, approaching them as parts that are trying to protect you rather than parts that are working against you. This perspective tends to make the work feel more compassionate and less like a battle against yourself.

How long will it take to feel better?

This is one of the most common questions in anxiety counseling, and the honest answer is that it varies. Some clients notice shifts within the first few sessions. For others, it takes longer, especially if anxiety has been a part of daily life for many years. What most clients find is that progress is real and measurable over time. Rather than focusing on a fixed timeline, the work focuses on building tools and understanding that create lasting change, not just short-term relief.

Do you only work with people in Denver, or across all of Colorado?

Because all sessions are held online, I work with clients throughout Colorado, not just in the Denver area. If you have been searching for anxiety counseling in Denver or anywhere else in the state, online therapy means you can access support without being limited by location.

What if I've already tried therapy and it didn't help?

That is more common than you might think, and it doesn't mean therapy won't work for you. It often means the approach wasn't the right fit, or the timing wasn't right. The combination of ERP and an IFS-informed perspective that I use is specifically designed for people whose anxiety feels stuck or hard to shift.

What does a first session look like?

The first session is really about getting to know you. There is no pressure to dive into the hardest stuff right away. I will ask about what's been going on, what you've already tried, and what you're hoping for. It's also a chance for you to ask questions and get a feel for whether working together feels like a good fit. Many clients say they feel a sense of relief just from being heard in that first conversation.

How much does anxiety counseling cost, and do you take insurance?

I currently accept the following insurances: Medicaid (CO Access), United Healthcare, and Aetna. If you do not have insurance or don’t want to use it, my private pay rate is $170 per 55 minute session. I am happy to provide superbills if you wish to request out-of-network reimbursement from your insurance company.

What if I'm not sure my anxiety is "bad enough" to warrant therapy?

You do not have to be in crisis to deserve support. If anxiety is affecting your relationships, your work, your sleep, or your ability to enjoy your life, that is enough. A lot of people wait until things feel unbearable before reaching out, but you don't have to wait that long. The sooner you have real tools and real support, the sooner things can start to shift.

Is what I share in sessions confidential?

Yes. Everything you share in therapy is confidential, with a few specific legal and ethical exceptions that I will explain during your first session. You can speak freely knowing that what you share stays between you and your therapist. That sense of safety is foundational to the work.

What if I want to reach out but I'm nervous about taking that first step?

That nervousness makes complete sense, and it is one of the most common things people feel before contacting a therapist for the first time. You don't have to have the right words or know exactly what you want to say. A simple message or phone call is enough. My approach is warm and unhurried, and there is no pressure to commit to anything before you're ready. The first step is just a conversation.
