Coping with COVID

It is starting to dawn on many of us that we need to start adapting to a "new normal" in our society, and in the world. What does the future hold? Where do we go from here?

This is something that brings up anxiety in many of us, and understandably so. It may be helpful to acknowledge that this is a collective experience; we really are all in this together. So how do we cope?

Self-care is an absolute must. Consider all aspects of your well-being and prioritize each of them: physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and social.

Some ideas for physical self-care: engage in regular hygiene (showering/bathing, brushing teeth, etc), eat healthfully and mindfully, find time to exercise every day (even if it's just 10 minutes), practice yoga and stretching, take walks, get at least 7 hours of sleep every night.

Some ideas for mental self-care: find some quiet time each day, turn off your devices, spend time in nature, breathe fresh air, read, journal, meditate, create goals for yourself (big and small) and work towards them.

Some ideas for emotional self-care: get creative (write, paint, make music, build something, etc), talk with a friend/partner/family member/therapist, spend time with animals, listen to your favorite music, journal.

Some ideas for spiritual self-care: meditate, pray, spend time outside, chant, read, journal, create a beautiful space for yourself, connect with your community.

Some ideas for social well-being: keep in touch with your loved ones by texting, calling, and using video platforms, reach out to old friends, use social media to seek and share hopeful messages, take space when you need it if you are living with other people.
