Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) for Borderline Personality Disorder

Individual DBT Counseling for Young Adults with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD)

You’ve been told you’re “too emotional”...

...and this drives you crazy. People just don’t seem to understand you or your experience. All you want is to love and be loved. You try your best to connect with people but end up feeling abandoned time and time again. Even when you are in a relationship, it’s hot and cold, and you feel like you’re holding on for dear life, hoping they won’t leave you.

Your emotions feel like a roller coaster; one minute everything is fine, and the next minute you feel like you’re going to explode. You don’t mean to yell, but it feels like the only way you can get through to people. You try taking space from people, but this only makes you feel more overwhelmed… frustrated… and depressed.

You know it’s time for something to change. You crave more control, but you’re not sure what else to do. Things have been this way for as long as you can remember, and you wonder if the life you want is even possible.

Sometimes we just need the right tools to make change happen.

I help people who are feeling overwhelmed and ruled by their emotions to develop more control and confidence in their abilities to handle life’s ups and downs. I know that you have big goals and dreams, that you want to experience happiness and have healthy relationships. I want to help you move through life more effectively so you can make this a reality.

I provide an abundance of effective tools using Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) in individual therapy. This therapy model is fairly structured and offers several different coping skills and techniques that will help you regulate your emotions, cope with distress, improve your relationships, and cultivate more mindfulness and presence in your life. DBT was designed for people experiencing borderline personality disorder, however, I believe DBT can be helpful for everyone (myself included!). Each session we will cover new skills so you can walk away EVERY TIME with something concrete that you can apply in your daily life to start seeing the changes you want. I will also provide you with worksheets and exercises so you can continue to learn and grow outside of our therapy sessions.

My goal in this approach is to help you grow in the ways you desire!

I am not the type of therapist who will pressure you to use skills that aren’t working for you. I am very down-to-earth and enjoy having open communication about what is and isn’t working for you. Luckily, DBT is FULL of content, and since we're working one-on-one, we get to collaborate and focus on what is most helpful to you and leave the rest behind.

The people I work with experience significant changes in many realms of their life. Their confidence increases and they feel more equipped to handle what life throws at them. Imagine what it would be like to be able to recognize your emotions and feel more control over them; to be able to clearly communicate with the people in your life; to really trust and love yourself. You deserve this, and my commitment to you is to provide you with plenty of effective tools and support so you can achieve your goals.

Please note: This is not a traditional DBT model. The traditional DBT model consists of a weekly skills group and weekly individual therapy. I do not require that you attend a group. Instead, I work with you individually to teach you DBT skills and do therapy simultaneously. This type of therapy lasts longer than the traditional model because we are working individually and not in a group. If you have any questions or concerns about this process, please feel free to reach out so we can discuss together!
